New Life in the Heart of Minneapolis

About five years ago, I was walking around on the streets of Chicago Ave. and Lake St. in Minneapolis and we were talking about Christ and praying with people in the neighborhood. There were many homeless and very poor people walking around and it was a tough neighborhood. We told people that we wanted to make the neighborhood better by leading them to Christ. I remember one man saying, "If you want to help out this neighborhood, buy that building."

Server Upgrades

Just a quick note to people who are using any of the sites on my server. We just finished upgrading the Apache webserver. We also may do some playing around with it this afternoon. If you notice anything odd, feel free to contact me so i know it needs fixing.

Apparently TV is Back

Yikes. Last night was just a regular night for me, but apparently it was the first TV event of the year, if everyone at my office is any indicator. Half the office spent the first 20 minutes of the day talking about that show American Idol. Maybe one of these years I'll be able to report on why anyone actually watches shows like that, but I doubt it'll ever make sense. I mean, seriously, the only things that are good on TV these days are reruns of Seinfeld and The Simpsons.

Superb Design and Community Functionality

I love stuff that is designed really well and functions amazingly well. And, because I live in a house with 16 other people, it's always important to think about big scale. And Jennifer from 9of.us pointed out an amazing (and probably fairly expensive) custom-made product: the expanding table! Check it in action:

What do you think? That's so much cooler than just the table that adds some leaves in the middle. But it looks expensive, and we already have plenty of tables at our houses.

Shout-Outs

Just a quick post to mention a couple new blogs on my blogroll. They're both great reads.

First up is Justin Walters. He first commented on my blog when I mentioned People of Praise. A couple weeks ago he introduced himself to me. And then a couple days ago, while working on Emmaus Project, I realized that Justin was in the same industry as I. He fooled me with most of his recent posts being over-my-head philosophy and theology stuff.

Store Up Your Treasures In Heaven

For me, this weekend is one huge celebration of life. Many of my brothers and sisters in Christ are coming to town for the People of Praise covenent making. Myself and a handful of people are making the covenant, many of which I know well. It's going to be great to have many special people in town to celebrate, including my sister. It's so exciting to have many great friends who I am going to live the rest of my life with.

A Terrible Commute

Tonight it took me over two hours to get home.

As most know, I usually take the MetroTransit Hiawatha Light Rail line to and from work. Today was no exception, although I was very disconcerted when no trains showed up between 5:20 and 5:40 at my stop (not even going in the other direction).

Stretched-Out, Four-Door

About a month ago we had a "fun day" at work and spent the morning doing anything but work in this amazing car. I just had to post a couple pictures of this thing (thanks to Joelle and Paul for the photos):

The Unveiling
We were all trying to figure out why this was at our work.

The Land Yacht
Well, I guess this "Land Yacht" is for us...

Enough With Patience!

Finally!

After three or four weeks of agony, da-Man.com is back! Yes, I lost my domain name to some neglegence and shady hosting, but I have managed to buy it back. I have learned the hard way, though, to make sure that you have absolute control over your domain names. Using a missin-critical domain that you have not registered yourself is a bad idea, because if you don't have complete control, it can slip away.

Hopefully soon I'll fill you in on all the fun stuff recently. We'll see.

Please Be Patient

I don't know how you got here, but I've had a bit of a problem with my domain name. Right now "da-man.com" is not owned by me somehow through some slightly underhanded dealings from an old hosting company. I am working to get it back, but until then we'll just have to hang out here.

Thanks for your patience and prayers that I will get back up on my feet again. ;-)

Did You Ever See Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

Two years ago, I was visiting the new Infuze Magazine and checking out their new features. One of the features was Prodigy, a serialized novel by Robin Parrish. I loved it, mostly because Robin watches many of the same movies as I do and has much of the same tastes. The book played like a mystery, had elements of The Matrix and other futuristic sci-fi movies in it, and was action-packed at every turn.

I Walk The Line

An article I found in today's local news site was about a student who spoke out for his faith. I definitely urge you to read this badly-written, biased story.

What's wrong with it? Well, it seems to propose what Ben Kessler said was wrong. It only mentions people who were disgruntled with his statement. Was Ben Kessler the only one who has these opinions? Hardly.

Take A Look Again, I'm Running

Yesterday I was very glad to hear that a good friend of mine, Michael Z., is planning on going to the U of M (not Michigan, you sillies!). Oh wait, that is, if he doesn't join a Socialist friend in Uganda, apparently.

The reason I'm excited about it is because he will be living closer to my place of residence. Therefore, hopefully we can hang out and watch movies more often. He can come over for dinner more often too. That'll be awesome because I miss him. And he's had a hard year, so I'm glad he's feeling ready to go to college.

When I'm Open Wide With Nothing Left To Cling To

This is killing me.

My iPod hasn't worked for the last two or three weeks and now my computer seems to be having problems now too.

What's going on? Please pray that things start working here soon or God tells me what he's trying to say. My time to work on projects such as inReview.net is limited enough without spending all that time on fixing my iPod.

After All This Has Passed, I Still Will Remain

Here's a quick blog post.

My iPod wasn't working all week. I don't know what was the problem, but I think Windows decided not to play nice with Apple this week.

In less than an hour last night I launched a website: aNewWayToLive.org. I got to go out for drinks afterward too. (It looked cooler, but we had to scale the site back a bit this morning.)

Lets Find Out The Beauty of Seeing Things Through

I recently picked up the latest from Sara Groves, and one line really struck me:

Loving a person just the way they are
It's no small thing

The Factory Is Gonna Catch Fire

Some of my favorite things from GMA week so far have not been great events, but how God is working in the lives of close friends.

Plane To The Down South

So, y'all, you won't see me the next week at my usual haunt here. That's because this week is GMA Music Week 2006. That's right, it's time for tons of interviews, showcases, and networking. For what? Of course, it's the impending release of inReview.net, which will probably be here anyday.

Where We Can Play Football

Well, yesterday I went to see the house that I'm living in starting in September. It was cool. Right now, it looks like a bunch of drunk college guys live there, so it's not fun to look at. But, next year, it'll be great. It's a bit smaller, but it will still be tons of room to work with. The location isn't as good for public transportation, but I can live with another 10-15 minutes to get home.

Do Not Tell Me What I Can And Cannot Do

You know it's the first day of spring in Minnesota when:

  • It's about 22 degrees (Farenheight) on a Monday night.
  • When hungry, we still went for McDonald's soft serve ice cream.
  • We still loved it while walking home.

It was great.

(I don't know why I keep telling these types of stories. Maybe I think I'm crazy. Maybe I think I can take it better than you. Or maybe it's just too cold to think sane.)
