Album Of The Day: Odd Soul by Mutemath

Album Art of Mutemath's Odd Soul album - An illustration of a man from the shoulders up, with a grey suit over a white shirt and a grey tie, on a sandy brown background. Where his head would be is a picture of some dark scene with some blurry lights, like it's a picture at night while a vehicle is in motion. In the top right, there's a large drop of water with a golden white color with a dark brown reverse of it right above it, and printed over that is the band's name in simple black text. At the very bottom in a light blue box is the album title in larger text.

Released 15 years ago today, this is the third studio album by alternative rock band Mutemath, one of my all-time favorite groups. Surprisingly, after their guitarist for the first few albums left, the band made their most guitar-heavy album of their career. There's still lots of keyboard and impeccable drums and bass work as well. The lyrics clearly are from people struggling with relationships as well as some frustrations with the Christian culture the band members were brought up in. The band put on some of the best live shows of my life and were such talented musicians and this album certainly was not exactly what I was expecting at first. It's not the most memorable songs from Mutemath for me, but it is still a solid album from them.

A middle-aged, rotund man is shown from the shoulders up holding a vinyl record and CD of this album in his right hand. He's got short hair and a full beard that's also pretty short, and glasses that are showing some refection from the monitor. He's smiling and has a rack of CDs and some vinyl and some boxes behind him.
