Album Of The Day: The White Songbook by Joy Electric

Album Art of Joy Electric's The White Songbook album - On a solid white background, there's a thick, dark red line that goes from the bottom most of the way up about a quarter of the distance from the left to right. Printed in the top of this thick line in white is 'je' and and the bottom in smaller letters is 'joyelectric'. To the right of the top of the line, printed in the same red is the album title, and at the bottom it says 'legacy volume one'.

Released 25 years ago this past Friday, this is the fifth studio album by electronic music artist Joy Electric. The first in a series of four albums titled "The Legacy Series", all of its non-vocal sounds are made from a Roland System 100 synthesizer. It definitely sounds different than modern rock/electronic music due to this limitation, but I find it very interesting. One of the most recognizable songs from Joy Electric to me is "We Are Rock", one of the funnest and catchiest songs on this album. But the whole album is an entertaining hour of beeps and bloops approximating modern pop/rock sounds and mixing really well with Ronnie Martin's sometimes-falsetto vocals. At the same time, though, it's also less pop/rock and more experimental than the Joy Electric albums before this. If you are a fan of electronic music, definitely give this album a listen and even if you don't really usually listen to electronic music, you might find some things you might appreciate anyway.
