Album Of The Day: With The Beatles by The Beatles

Album Art of The Beatles's With The Beatles album - A black and white photo of four men on a black background wearing black clothes, so that only their faces are really visible in the black and their heads almost look to be floating. Three men are in a row towards the top, and one off to the bottom right below the others. Above the photo, a white section says the album title in black print next to the Parlophone Records logo in the top left, and it says 'stereo' in the top right.

Released 62 years ago today in the UK, this is the second album from The Beatles. It contains 8 original songs including "It Won't Be Long" and "All My Loving" plus 6 covers of rock or R&B hits. The band had really just started to form, but they definitely had great harmonies and were excellent musicians even at this point. They were mostly just following the formula of a pop/rock band at this time, but they did it really well, and it's a fun listen, even though some of these songs were not hits like others. At first, Capitol Records in the US didn't release this album and released these songs on albums with different titles like Meet The Beatles! and The Beatles' Second Album, but in later decades this album was available for purchase as it was originally released in the UK and other countries. The Beatles are a huge influence of modern music and it's easy to hear why even in their early albums like this one.
