Album Of The Day: Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay

Released 15 years ago today in Japan and a few days later in other parts of the world, this is the fifth album by British rock/pop sensation Coldplay. No doubt you've heard "Paradise" and "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" by now. I'll be honest: in the 2000s, I loved Coldplay, but by the 2010s, I was less impressed by their output. This album was kinda where I started not enjoying their albums as much. Maybe I just was no longer feeling their new arena anthems, or maybe I just wanted to listen to music that wasn't what the rest of the world was listening to. I still bought their albums on CD, but I was not enjoying the music as much as their first few albums. I still know most of these songs as they have performed them on Super Bowl halftime shows and many other places over the years. On this listen for the first time in nearly 7 years, I find the album isn't bad, but I'm just not feeling it. Maybe it's just my problem and this band is totally on point; or maybe somehow I'm not feeling their relentless positivity and poppy vibe, or maybe they are just not as great as they were in the early days. If you love this album, do celebrate it, but unfortunately I think this was a start of the band not connecting with me.
