Released 10 years ago tomorrow, this is the seventeenth studio vocal album by guitar virtuoso and artist Phil Keaggy. One of his few albums that was released via a crowd-funding model, it had been over a decade before this that Phil Keaggy had released an album of songs he wrote and performed. Though during that time, Phil was definitely not sitting around; he was touring and recorded many instrumental albums and a few albums where others wrote the lyrics. Played next to some his albums released for Christian rock/pop labels in the 1990s, this sounds very similar, with lots of guitar solos in the midst of quality rock songs about life's joys and struggles and a relationship with God. Songs like "Mercy", "Undertow" and "Fearless Love" are all-out rock. "Not Be Moved" and "I Must Tell Jesus" are a bit slower and bring a beautiful witness to God's love and faithfulness. I certainly love the appearance of Ashley Cleveland doing harmonies on the track "Ezekiel". I think this is a fun, 14-track album, though a few years later Phil re-released it with only 10 tracks, including a longer instrumental track, and titled it Fearless Love, so I guess he didn't think it was the best version of his work that was available. Or you can listen to both versions (though the latter is not on streaming) and decide which you like better.
