Album Of The Day: Make It Out Alive by The Arcadian Wild

Album Art of The Arcadian Wild's Make It Out Alive album - What looks iike a drawing of a beautiful evening scene, as the sunset near the horizon and the partly-cloudy, blue sky with stars are the top half. Near the horizon are large hills, some with rocky, steep parts. In the foreground is a building that looks like a roadside diner, it's exterior bathed in the orange glow of the neon sign above that says 'Make It Out Alive' in all caps on top of the building, with 'The Arcadian Wild' in smaller letters on the front of the building below it. In the building, it looks maybe more like a large living room, with people dancing, some sitting at tables, and someone playing a piano. Outside, there's mostly dirt on the ground, a few old sedans parked out front, and three people are approaching the building. We can only see them from the back, but it looks like two men and a woman in nice clothes.

Released today, this is the fourth album from the acoustic folk/bluegrass group The Arcadian Wild. They've got an excellent sound: a very simple, organic mix of fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and bass, with no drums on most tracks. Bailey, Isaac and Lincoln switch off on lead vocals and create beautiful harmonies. Though it is borne of traditional folk and bluegrass, I would say their sound is still pretty modern in style and some of these songs really swing despite not having the drums of a modern pop/rock sound. Like the album cover shows, the lyrics seem to be fairly serene pictures of life and people. This was only released today so I've only listened to it a few times, but I like it just as much as their last album, I think, if not more. Looking forward to seeing them play live again this fall and giving this more listens.
