Album Of The Day: Band Of Brothers by Band Of Brothers

Released 5 years ago today, this is the only album from this group of long-time musicians that calls themselves Band Of Brothers. (No, this is not an HBO drama series.) In 2017, Los Angeles artists John Walquist and Ragnar Rosinkranz created an album called Weatherboy, and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Phil Keaggy helped play a bunch of instruments in the studio. That album is a very modern, more experimental-sounding album, with layers of atmospheric sounds. Phil Keaggy apparently was expecting a much different-sounding album, and a few years later asked if he could make an album more like he was expecting: a more classic pop/rock album. And then Band Of Brothers was born. John Walquist wrote a few new songs and some parts were recorded anew for the original songs, and Phil Keaggy was more involved with the production this time and mixed the recording. Steve Brewster recorded drums for the album as well. The resulting Band Of Brothers album is definitely very different musically, and sounds much more like it could have been made a few decades ago. Lyrically, John Walquist is sharing stories about his life and his family as well as giving thanks to God for all he's been given. Walquist, Rosinkranz and Keaggy trade off lead vocals which adds a bit of variety to the album as well. It's a beautiful album with some well-written songs and worth a listen.
