Album Art of Shaun Groves's Invitation To Eavesdrop album - On a white background, nine photos are in a grid. Released 25 years ago today (I think), this is the first album from Christian soft rock singer/songwriter Shaun Groves. Shaun was well-known for a moment there for his single from this album, "Welcome Home"; at least it was a modest Christian radio hit, I think. (I got to see him play the last chorus of this song with a full band as the members of Jars Of Clay and Jennifer Knapp's band joined him on stage one night in 2002 as a surprise, which was really fun.) I like his style of lyrics, which is a Christian trying to reconcile his humanity with Christian teachings and speaking about it in everyday language. Songs like "Satellite", "Move Me", and "Damage Done" do get pretty rock 'n' roll, while most of the other songs are more mid-tempo piano ballads. "Your Renown" is more of a worship song, and "After The Music Fades" is another highlight of this album for me. Shaun Groves's music is one I don't listen too often, but I do like it a lot when I give it a listen. He's a good songwriter and this album sounds great still today. Shaun does not do music much anymore but is still in Christian ministry, and I enjoyed reading his blog for many years.
