Album Of The Day: God by Rebecca St. James

Album Art of Rebecca St. James's God album - A photo of a woman sitting on a chair sideways facing the camera with her left leg sitting on her right. She's wearing an orange, button-down shirt and also sitting in front of an orange background with a window frame design off to the left. She has brown hair that curls past her shoulders and a beautiful face with an almost-smile. Her hands are clasped together out in front of her, resting on her leg. On top of the photo are a bunch of fold/distress marks and some clear tape. On the left side, there's a black label-maker style font that has the artist's name, and on the top right it has the album title in the same font.

Released 30 years ago this past Thursday, this is the third album from Australian-born Christian pop singer Rebecca St. James. Only 18 years old at the time of release, God found the singer making music with a bit more a rock edge, maybe inspired by artists like Melissa Etheridge's success. The title track opens the album with St. James almost screaming her devotion to God over guitars, pounding drums and bass. The closing track "Go And Sin No More" was an anthem for many years for Christian kids everywhere, I'm sure, and is still a favorite. The songs she didn't co-write, "You're The Voice", "You Then Me", and "Me Without You", all fit well on the album and are some great tracks. It was played a lot in 1998 and beyond at home by my sisters and I. I think it's still one of her best albums.
